Astronomers at NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day select a recent SkyCenter image of the Dark Clouds of Aquila. These clouds of dust hang serenely along the plane of the Milky Way which can now be seen each dark night (no moon) from the SkyCenter. This two frame mosaic is testament to the darkness of the sky atop Mount Lemmon when looking away from the city. These clouds are seen not from the light they emit, but instead in silhouette by a long exposure that captures the myriad stars that are beyond them.
