Our knowledgeable guides will lead you on a 90-minute walking tour, unveiling the secrets behind our state-of-the-art telescopes, including the SkyCenter's impressive Schulman 32-inch and Phillips 24-inch instruments. You'll also have the opportunity to explore other fascinating facilities on the summit, such as the University of Minnesota's 60-inch telescope and the Catalina Sky Survey, where astronomers search for near-Earth asteroids.

Weather permitting, gaze at the sun through our specialized solar telescope and witness its dynamic surface in a safe and unforgettable way.

Know Before You Go: 

  • Accessibility: The tour involves walking on paved paths with some uphill and downhill sections. Please wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes.
  • Weather: Mount Lemmon is generally 30 degrees colder than the Tucson Valley, dress accordingly!
  • Sturdy Shoes: Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are recommended for walking around the observatory grounds.

Age Appropriateness: 

Recommended for ages 7 and up due to the outdoor setting and program length.

  • Drive Time: Allow approximately 90-120 minutes from central Tucson, as mountain driving requires extra care and time.

Cancellation Policy

  • Group Tours (20+): For group tours, a full refund or rescheduling is available with at least 7 business days' notice prior to the scheduled tour.
  • Individual Tickets: For individual daytime tour tickets, a full refund or rescheduling is available with at least 48 hours' notice prior to the scheduled tour.
  • No-Shows & Late Cancellations: Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds or rescheduling for no-shows or cancellations made less than the specified notice periods.
